High Speed Data-streaming

High Speed Throughput is No Longer Confined to Large, Stationary Systems
High performance processing, massive storage capacity, and flexible I/O options are the keys to providing the throughput needed for the most complex applications and uses, including:
- portable sniffer or traffic generator for high speed data monitoring applications
- mobile production studio for the broadcast industry
- high-definition display applications, across any industry, requiring close to real-time data output
- mobile data recording and playback
Our mobile workstation/servers combine these 3 key components to provide performance and functionality equal to high-end stationary workstations in a mobile computer.
Explore the tabs below for specifics on how our integration of each component adds to the throughput capacity of our flextops.
More Drives = Faster Capture/Retrieval
Information is captured or retrieved faster with more drives available.
For instance, a NextDimension Evo with:
- 12 SATA drives (7200 RPM) in a RAID 0 configuration can sustain in excess of 500 MB/s for both read and write
- 8 SAS drives (10K RPM) can sustain over 650 MB/s for both read and write
Total capacity can be a factor in many applications also, so the NextDimension Pro and Pro HD offer up to 10 internal 2.5" 200GB or 320GB SATA drives, while all the Evo systems, including Vigor, can support up to 17 internal drives.
If more storage capacity is needed, all the NextDimensions can attach a NextPak to the back, containing up to 5 more 2.5” drives.
Other hard drive options include 2.5" 146GB (10K RPM) SAS drives and 3.5" 1TB (7200 RPM) SATA drives.
NextComputing sales associates can assist in determining the right balance between total storage capacity and high read/write rates to meet most any application need.

More Ports = Faster Input
More information going into a computer at once means it can be processed more quickly to get the necessary results.
NextComputing's mobile workstations offer numerous options for inputing information, including several built-in:
- gigabit Ethernet ports
- external SATA port options
- USB 2.0 ports
- Firewire 400, 800, or 1394a
- audio and video display options
What truly sets NextComputing's flextops apart from laptop workstations is their PCI capabilities. Where even the highest end laptop workstations are limited in how many PCI cards they have and usually to factory installed cards, NextComputing’s flextops offer up to 4 slots with support for:
- PCI-X
- PCIe 16x
- legacy 5V PCI cards

Faster Processors = Faster Data Manipulation
The latest processors from AMD and Intel provide a variety of special features designed to maximize throughput.
AMD Opteron™ processors:
- AMD's Direct Connect Architecture helps improve system performance and efficiency by directly connecting processors, memory, and the I/O to the CPU
- HyperTransport™ technology provides up to 24.0GB/s peak bandwidth per processor, reducing I/O bottlenecks
- Processors feature a high-bandwidth integrated DDR2 DRAM controller which increases application performance by reducing memory latency
- AMD Balanced Smart Cache provides exceptional support for multi-threaded environments through a highly efficient cache structure
Intel® Xeon® processors:
- Fully Buffered DIMM (FBDIMM) technology increases memory speed and significantly improves data throughput
- Up to 12MB of L2 cache for maximizes bandwidth between main memory and processors
- High-speed front-side bus up to 1333MHz for increases throughput and bandwidth between each of the processors and the chipset
